A guide to trash mobs within the Rift
Introduction
Within the Rift, the trash mobs you have to face vary as you get further and further in.
Below is a simple guide on how to tackle these mobs.
Most of this information has been gathered whilst raiding with Mhain, but some has come from my own
experiences within this entertaining, and definately challenging, instance.
Bornabar - The road to Barz & Zurm
As you fight towards the first two bosses within the rift, you have to deal with three main trash mob types spread around Bornabar
Blogmal Troll-Keeper and Blogmal Cave-troll
This is the first type of mob you'll meet within the Rift, and a lot of time can be wasted if you're not sure in what order to takle the monsters.
Whilst the Troll-Keeper is alive, the troll is buffed with Wild Rage and Master's Command:
-
Also, if the troll is seperated from its master more than a few yards, it will scream "Master is far, ME SMASH!" and its melee attack strength is massively increased.
The best tactic to defeat this mob is to have everyone attack the Troll-Master, as it is impossible to maintain agro from the Troll.
If the minstrels keep the main raid in-between himself and the troll, then it is very unlikely the troll will target them.
Once the master is down, the troll looses both buffs and can easily be taken down.
The main tank should attempt to maintain agro at the front, whilst the rest attack from behind, thus avoiding the Troll's AOE attacks.
Tarkip Slave-master, Hillmen Slave and four Hillmen Workers
This mob can very quickly turn into an absolute nightmare and wipe a raid in seconds.
The Hillman Slave can heal every monster by 2000hp every two seconds when she casts Blood Gift, and can also cause absorb a massive amount of damage done to other mobs with Blood Pact Protection (Similar to the Guardian shield-wall skill):
-
Whilst attempting to cast these buffs, the Hillman Slave will drop to her knees and chant. A green aura will appear in a circle around her.
The Tarkip Slave-master has the raid-killing buff called Aura of Command:

Whilst attempting to cast this buff, the Tarkip Slave-master will say "?????" and shake his fists whilst looking left to right.
There are various different methods for taking on this type of mob, but I believe the best method is as follows:
At the start of the fight, the OFF-tank should range-pull one of the Hillmen Workers. At the same time, the minstrels must fear the
Tarkip Slave-master.
As soon as he's feared, the MAIN-tank should chase after the Tarkip Slave-master and agro him and drag him as far away as possible from the other Hillmen.
The second minstrel should follow the MAIN-tank, keeping a bit of distance, and heal him as nessicary. This minstrel should concentrate SOLELY on keeping the
MAIN-tank alive... if he is defeated, the Tarkip Slave-master will return to the Hillmen and buff them immediately, resulting in a raid-wipe.
Finally, a champion should be assigned to constantly clobber the Hillman Slave, stopping her from casting her heal buffs.
The rest of the raid should concentrate on downing the Hillmen Workers.
Once the Hillmen Workers have been defeated, the raid should assist the MAIN-tank in defeating the Tarkip Slave-master.
As he can deal a vast array of AOE attacks, it is again best to have the tank agro him from the front, whilst everyone else attacks from behind.
Finally, the raid should take down the clobbered Hillman Slave.
Depending on the amount of Champions within the raid, it may be possible to assign a Champion to assist the MAIN-tank from the start.
This adds great protection against the Tarkip Slave-master's Aura of Command buff, and it may also be possible to defeat him before all the Hillmen Workers have been defeated.
Tarkip Slave-master and six Pale-folk Miners
This is possibly the easiest trash mob within the Rift.
As with the above mob, the Tarkip Slave-master has the raid-killing buff called Aura of Command:

Whilst attempting to cast this buff, the Tarkip Slave-master will say "?????" and shake his fists whilst looking left to right.
At the start of this fight, the OFF-tank should range-pull one of the Pale-folk Miners.
At the same time, the minstrels must fear the Tarkip Slave-master.
As soon as he's feared, the MAIN-tank should chase after the Tarkip Slave-master and agro him and drag him as far away as possible from the Pale-folk.
The second minstrel should follow the MAIN-tank, keeping a bit of distance, and heal him as nessicary. This minstrel should concentrate SOLELY on keeping the
MAIN-tank alive... if he is defeated, the Tarkip Slave-master will return to the Pale-folk and buff them immediately, making this fight much, much harder.
The raid should concentrate on defeating all the Pale-folk.
Because their HP is relatively low, AOE attacks should be used as much as possible to make their defeat as swift as possible.
To that end, if everyone stands "on top" of each other (ie, stand on the same spot), then you can be sure your AOE attacks are hittings the maximum amount of targets
Once the Hillmen Workers have been defeated, the raid should assist the MAIN-tank in defeating the Tarkip Slave-master.
As he can deal a vast array of AOE attacks, it is again best to have the tank agro him from the front, whilst everyone else attacks from behind.
Unlike the previous mob, it is not really advisable to send a champion to assist the MAIN-tank, as their AOE attacks would be much more beneficial in taking down the Pale-folk
Lower Noruidor - The nest of Zortark
Once you've entered the city within the Rift, you're presented with yet another trash mob to deal with as you battle towards Zortark.
Summoner and summoned Fire-worms
The Summoner will continue to summon more and more Fire-worms until he is distractred or defeated.
When he raises his right arm in the air and begins to chant, he is attempting to summon.
The MAIN-tank should CHALLENGE the entire mob at the start, to ensure he gains agro from all the Fire-worms.
The OFF-tank should ENGAGE the Summoner and, with the assistance of the rest of the raid, defeat him.. keeping an eye to clobber or kick him when he attempts to summon.
Once defeated, the raid should concentrate on one fire-worm at a time, until they are all defeated.
Norbar Approach - The home of Narnûlubat
There is only one type of mob you'll encounter here, but they can cause additional monsters to spawn, so care should be taken whilst facing them.
Six Fumaroles and their Searing Úrfons
In total, there are six Fumaroles spread out across the three lava islands.
The first island contains four, the next contains one, and the final is found on the last island.
It is vital that the raid moves SLOWLY and in a tight-group as they explore the islands, looking for the Fumaroles.
Uncovering more than one at a time will almost certainly end in a raid-wipe.
When you do uncover a Fumarole, EVERY member of the raid should concentrate on defeating it. Champions should try to maintain a constant clobber on it, limiting or even preventing the spawning of Searing Úrfons. If any DO spawn, remain focused on the Fumarole.
Once it has been defeated, target the Searing Úrfons.
During the ENTIRE FIGHT, try not to move from your spot, as accidently uncovering another Fumarole can be disasterous.
Once the Fumarole and any spawned Searing Úrfons have been defeated, continue to slowly search for more Fumaroles until all six have been defeated.
