Hail Brothers,

Just to let you all know I should have my Eregion and Forochel travels skills this afternoon for those who need a quick trip anywhere. I certainly don't mind helping out if you need to get somewhere in a hurry - just keep in mind I go through travel rations at a ridiculous rate of consumption. If you do need a trip somewhere the rations used would be greatly appreciated (its usually somewhere between 1 and 4 rations per trip, depending on location). Far faster and cheaper then using some poor over-worked stable horse!

Cheers,

Hey
Can any one make the Hardened Dwarf-iron Heavy armor set (lvl 31)? My lvl 21 armor is getting a little rusty now.
I was checking the AH and each piece costs around 400s so it might be easier if i try to collect the materials instead.:D

I was thrilled to travel to Helegrod last Sunday after the moot ((my first raid ever in any game)), although we didn't get very far in there. I would also like to go there again soon, and so I would like to ask if you brothers would like to join and organize a new raid in the very near future, maybe with some of our future allied kins.

I'm afraid, that after the way towards Khazad-Dum will be open, there will be no brothers for "old" raids for a while. So maybe we could try to organize a new Helegrod raid already during this week? On Thursday maybe, or again on Sunday after the moot?

What do you think, brothers?

We, proud dwarfs of Baruk Khazad, have got an invitation to join an assault down the rift of Nurz Gashru. The company of longshanks that went down there with us last friday was pleased with our resluts, how can they not be?

We will go there again this friday at 8pm, the gathering starts at 7.30pm.

To make things easier for the organizers I suggest you put your name as a reply to this post if you are sure that you want to come. Those that put their names here will have a slot reserved for them, take it that they make it to 7.30pm.

Hail Brothers !

I had a few questions for the brothers who have some knowledge about the instruments.

I have just really discovered on the Darzill website that there exist many different craftable instruments with different bonus, and I was wondering what is useful.

I note that for each level:

1- One instrument will increase ballad damabe AND cost.
2- One instrument will reduce song cost.
3- One instrument will reduce ballad cost.
4- One instrument will reduce anthem cost.
5- One instrument will reduce threat.

I know nothing about endgame minstrel tactics. From what I know, looks like the one which reduces threat will be the most useful in fellowships.

I see little interest in the one that adds damage (our role) since will cause higher costs on power (our most sacred treasure).

In solo play, what would be the most useful: the one whch reduces ballad, anthem or song costs?

Many thanks in advance for sharing your views !

Since I have nothing better to do (the game is currently undergoing it's cursed weekly maintenance) I have just combed the website here through the strategy guides and other snippets. My third point relates well enough to these things :)

First off I just wanted to say how warm I have felt my reception has been and that this, as my first MMO, has been a fantastic experience so far. I haven't met any of you who are not willing to help the younger Dwarves of the kinship out and this provides for a great community and spirit.

Secondly, for many who have played this game since it's release there must be moments at this stage where it gets dull, boring, repetitive etc. I wanted to say that I hope there are enough new people coming into the game like myself who can equally help you guys to re-energise the game for you and bring back enthusiasm that may be waning.

Thirdly, after having looked at many of the strategy guides it fills me with much excitement to see what is ahead for me in the higher levels. I regret that at this time I cannot join the bulk of Baruk Khazad quests into Angmar and the Ettenmoors, but I have been having a lot of fun building my way so far. As one member said the other day I should take my time and enjoy this! :)

A quick snippet on who I am: my name is Andrew, I'm 21 years old and I'm currently studying ancient history in my final year at King's College London (lousy student I know). I look forward to meeting you in some greater depth and questing alongside you all in the near future.

Greetings brothers!

Some support is needed:
Two friends of mine and me are playing some music together but unfortunately we came to the conclusion that we need to learn more instruments to do some great music and to have the opportunity to switch. There is one minstrel in this small group but he is not able to teach us more than clarinette and horn.

If there was anybody in the Kin that could teach us Theorbo and Drums: we will be glad for your response.

Hail Brothers !

Bormr (champion), who reached level 47 the day before yesterday, is in need of help.

So far, I was happy with my equipment. I felt useful in fellowships while being able to deal with lonely tasks fairly enough.

I gained 2 levels within a short period of time lately (including thanks to some brothers' help) and I find myself quite lost.

I realize that I became very weak in solo play, and that in fellowship, I am unable to provide a decent level of help.

Yesterday, I grouped with a champion of my same level. She had 800 morale more than me, and obviously much better armors and equipments.

I understand she paid about 2,5 g to get some mirror swords and a nice elven knights armor set.
It made me realise that I have some backlog in my equipment and maybe my built. I was so busy leveling up, I did not pay enough attention about the rest.

I was wondering whether some brothers who happen to be champions could give me some piece of advice about what kind of weapons and armour sets I should try to buy/win for the next couple levels.
I tried to check on the official forums, but all the threads dedicated to that kind of information are filled up with posts talking about ultimate level 50 RIFT or mirrored stuff which are beyond my grasp and that anyway I cannot afford.

I generally try to focus on Might first, then Agility and Vitality, as a matter of principle. I was hoping the quest armour set you get from the king of Aughair would be worth wearing, but when I added all the stats it gives, I realise it is focused on Will and Agility and Fate rather than my favorite stats. Even though it boots my morale and armour protection rates higher than currently, it is not the right set to replace my current pieces of armor.

I am not expecting detailed answers with long developments. I was just hoping you might remember useful stuff. Kinda like:
"from level 46 to 49, I have been using this axe which was great." Or "I have been wearing this armor set which was very good".

Many thanks in advance to you !

Right we've done this before and had some good success and with the expansion fo the kin we'd like to start trying again.
However there are some things to bear in mind before registering your interest.
Firstly the Rift is a raid instance that only unlocks once a week. What does this mean?
Well it primarily means that at certain points in the instance you get "locks", these locks mean you cannot go back and do the earlier stuff until the instance resets (Thursday morning). So if you commit to doing the raid with the Kin then you can't go away and do it with another group in the same week.. It'll stop you from doing so.
Nothing to stop you from finishing it with another group if we are unable to get to the end in any given week though.

Secondly, its designed for a well mixed group. This includes having Loremasters, Burglars and possibly Captains. None of which we as Dwarves can be. So expect it to be tough, but not impossible.
Your existing knowledge of the Rift instance from other groups may be absolutely useless in a Dwarf only raid (or it may not). So expect to be told to do things that you are convinced will fail... but trust me, if doen properly, they won't.

Thirdly, don't put yourself forward unless you are comitteed to the cause. Its going to be tough, the repair bills for failure are immense (but not completely insurmountable), however the rewards are high. I've had more fun in here with Brothers than at any other time in the game.

Timing is yet to be decided. Although if enough Dwarves can make it then we can start as early as Thursday evenings. I am aware that some who are interested cannot make it for Monday, tuesday, wednesday so I would like to have it occur as early a start as possible, although an early saturday is not completely out of the question either.

So basically, lodge your interest here and we can continue to discuss tactics etc.

I fear it is time once again for us to recall the names of those lost to us and move them from our list of active members to the Roll of the Fallen.

I suggest that we gather in Frerin's Court outside Thorin's Hall prior to next week's Moot (at 18:00 server time on Sunday 5th October) for the recitation.

As you may be aware there has been much vociferous discussion on the LOTRO forums regarding the new Rune Keeper class that will be introduced in the Mines of Moria expansion.

I believe that it will be a dwarf available class, and it doesn't look too horribly unbalanced as such things go.

However even Jeffrey 'Every time I open my mouth I offend another part of the fan base' Steefel (gods how his PR department must hate him) has admitted that the class has no justification in Tolkien Lore, and goes directly against several parts of it (essentially it uses big flashy Boom-Mage style magic of the sort that in MERP would have had your character receiving a personal visit from the Witch King).

So, here's my question -

As a 'light RP' kinship should we allow Rune Keeper characters in the Baruk Khazad ?

I'd rather we answer the question before any of us start investing time in developing such characters.

[u]For those of you who missed the Moot yesterday, I have put forward an idea for BK too host a server wide event for the community of Laurelin. Below I shall explain the event as best I can once more:

'The Lost Cargo' (name still not decided upon) is an server-wide event hosted by the famous Dwarf clan of Baruk Khazad.

The event itself will take the same approach that the 'Dwarven Fox hunt' (hosted by the Unfinished Tales) took, where we have teams of players running around a certain area of Eriador looking for other players (who hand over items/clues)
Here I will describe the premise for the lost cargo itself, which hopefully will remain as the back-drop for the event:

An influencial merchant Dwarf in Bree has recently ordered a fine shipment of goods too be delivered too his estate in Bree-land. The order was made too his brothers in Thorins Hall, and it is they who send a small convoy of Dwarfs too guard/watch over the shipment.

The Guard though are lax in there watch, and take little heed of the importance of the delivery. Therefore, while passing through the Shire - land of the halflings - they stop by some of the local Inns and taverns.
It is here, in the rolling lands of the Shire, that the Dwarf convoy loses itself; not too Goblin spears and Bandit knives however, but too Ale. Ale of the finest Shire kind I might hasten too add!

It is unknown what the Dwarves drank, or where they drank it. All our teams of players will be told is that the 'convoy is lost, and no word of them passes too the Brandywine Bridge or beyond'
Teams of players must therefore discover what the Dwarves have been upto (which will be found with some 'clue-givers' dotted around the Shire) before having too track them down, take there cargo (with peace, or in at least one case, with force*) and deliver it too Bree.

The Drunken Dwarves will each carry a piece of cargo between them (having duplicates for each team) that together, will be able too make some form of crafted item. The items themselves will be crafted by a Brother, so no cheating will be possible. The first team too hand in all the items will be declared the winner.

(* One of the drunkeds will be aggresive, and force someone too spar him before he reliquishes his cargo - only with fists mind)

The event itself will need marshall (too stick with each team and make sure they dont use there ponys/horses) clue givers (one or two at a tavern, too put the teams on there way) and several (4 or 5) Drunken Dwarves. This is still in its idea stage, but this is definately something we can do.
